North Indian Sarees

Sarees of North India:
 
Six yards of unstitched piece of cloth - Saree is known for its elegant look and is also is the traditional dress of Indian women. The types and patterns of sarees vary as per different states of the country. The North Indian Sarees are known for the manufacturing some of the most worn Indian sarees. The famous North Indian saree manufacturing states include Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan etc. Below find some of the famous sarees of North India:


Banarasi Saree is named after the famous city of Uttar Pradesh state – Banaras, aka Varansi. These sarees are known for its heavy gold and silver weaving work. These sarees are popular since Mughal era, hence its design also reflect the shades of Mughal influence. In Banarasi sarees you may find the floral prints, strings and upright leaves, kalga, belbuti and animal figures etc. These sarees are also one of the most preferred bridal sarees.


Kota sarees, known for its fine textile and excellent weaving are also popular as Kota Doria sarees, names after a town called Kota of Rajasthan state. Kota sarees are the light weight, transparent sarees, woven by cotton or cotton-silk threads. In these sarees you may find block print, geometric patterns called khats or narrow border pattern. Kota sarees are the mot favorable for summer season.


Chikan sarees are another famous North Indian sarees, known for its elegant hand embroidery. This famous chikankari saree of North India belongs to capital city of Lucknow city of Uttar Pradesh state. The word chikan is derived from a Persian word “Chakin”, which means to intricate delicate patterns on fabric. The fabrics used in chikan sarees are cotton, chiffon, silk, georgette and rayon.


Bandhani Sarees:
Bandhini sarees are famous for its excellent design pattern and tie and dye technique. Bandhani sarees are also called Bandhej sarees, belong to Indian state Rajasthan. These sarees are made by dyeing the fabric in a manner, that the tied part creates patterns over the fabric. These sarees are found in fast and bright colors with dots, square or wave prints.
